Harvesting: Tangos and Murcotts. We’ve been sampling acid to sugar ratios and taste testing these two varieties every other day, and we couldn’t be more pleased with their flavor profile—a perfect tangy sweet balance. Strangely enough, the mandarins taste-testers haven’t gotten sick this year. It must be all that vitamin c! Can we get healthcare to cover a few mandarins a day?
Weather: Did you know Sierra Nevada is Spanish for snowy mountain range? This year over year satelite worldview image (below) shows snowpack is off to a very strong start. During February, back-to-back storms added 11 feet of snow in some places in our neighboring mountain range, pushing the California Dept. of Water Resources snow water equivalent levels to 146% of normal compared to 2018’s 21% as of February 15th 2019. Fortunately for those who were harvesting citrus, there were long enough breaks between storms allowing harvest to continue.
